I'm Writing Again!

He is risen and so is my creativity!

First off, this is late but… HAPPY EASTER!

The Good Lord gave His life on the cross so that you and I could have eternal life. Till date, there is no greater act of love, than one man choosing to die for all, especially when he was so innocent he didn’t have to. He didn’t have to.

But for the intents and purposes of this 3b’s&bs entry, with life comes creativity!

In case you weren’t aware, back in my day I was quite the creative writing master, however as I delved further into video creation, I wrote less and less. I felt bad about it, but there was only so much I could do. Plenty tabs open, adulting.exe kept crashing.

After losing my phone though, I gave up on video creation… oops, did I not put out that entry? Oh well, here it is. Surprise!

I decided I’d go back to writing, which hasn’t been easy, because the last proper story I came up with was in 2020, titled ‘An Almost Perfect Day’. I might publish it on here if any of you want to read it, but with no GIFs, of course (maybe).

Fast forward to Tuesday last week when I was heading for my friend Jesimiel’s birthday party at his office (where I paid for neither food nor entertainment, you’ll understand later on). Another friend, actress and producer, Nimi, sent me a short script for something. In the first two-three pages alone, my brain begun reverse engineering a single concept from it and I started to wonder, ‘what if…?’

The following day I built on it a bit more and by Thursday I had written a full outline. Now, I thought it would take me a while to get it written, but come Easter Friday, I hunkered down and gave it a go. About 8 hours and several social media breaks later, I had down about 30 pages of a Murder Mystery, ‘Passenger 1000’.

Synopsis: Nigeria’s most popular crypto millionaire was discovered dead in her home after new year’s day. Detective, Lanre, must dive deep to expose a phantom killer that doesn’t exist, before it’s too late.

Monday morning, I made a couple of changes and now the second draft stands at a beautiful 35 pages. I’m ecstatic because I haven’t done this in so long and I’m glad to see that God didn’t take the talent from me. I’ve still GOT IT!

Stay in school kids, unless you’re done with school then try your hardest to stay out of it, kids 😂 (I’m just kidding, you do you).

It’s the VAT that kills you.

There’s a reason they say “there’s food at home”.

There’s this other thing though, kind of a funny story involving me and a few friends. It’s from last Saturday which started off like such a normal day, yeah?? Next thing I know my friend—let’s call him Froyo—says I can come with him to this birthday at a restaurant. For context, I wanted to hit his place that day but he already had plans, and now I could be a part of them. The celebrant didn’t mind… I should’ve known.

I rushed out of my house by 11 (in a bolt, because of the rain) cus he kept calling and hurrying me up, only for me to get there and he hadn’t even taken a bath! I’d have strangled him but meh. Another friend—let’s call her Ananias, or Ana—was supposed to join us and it turns out she was baking an order for a client. Haq Haq!

By 2:50 we still had not left and the birthday thing was on the Lagos island o! (We all stay very much on the mainland. Technically, Froyo stays in Ogun state).

But we got there, it was fun, the celebrant was an acquaintance of mine from uni. There were only five people at the shindig, most cancelled for reasons unknown to us, and she kept saying she’d have moved it to Sunday when people could come, but mum already reserved the table. We ate, laughed, saw art (because it was a restaurant within an art gallery… weird but cool). And then it came time to pay.

Now every single one of us thought she had that covered because she kept talking about money not wasting. So we ordered like we weren’t paying! Some people even ordered two bottles of water (one bottle cost #400).

Ana and I kept looking at art when the celebrant said “we still haven’t paid,” cus we thought that meant her. We were like, “okay, so go and pay na, we haven’t left you.”

E shock me sha, all the prices of the food suddenly felt way more real. I ordered plantain as a side dish. The celebrant ate it cus I couldn’t even finish 😭. I calculated the price of my meal using the bill and it didn’t look so bad, then we saw that there was VAT.

It’s the VAT that kills you.

Nobody paid less than #7,900 that evening. I paid like #8,200, and we were still going to some Alte fest thing because Ana got free tickets (her friend was an organizer). It wasn’t my crowd, it was getting late, but hey, three’s a crowd! That made zero sense.

I end this here to tell you that I did have fun, even though my bank account is now on life support (we split our bolt bills but e still pain. I haven’t paid Froyo my part of our last bolt ride 😭). Go out with your friends and you may go broke, but human interaction is important.

Sha, don’t ask me to go out… cus there’s no money in my account 🥲 🎶.

Update: 36 Pages!!! And some riveting dialogue. And it’s now titled ‘Things That Glitter’. I got the idea for the new title when I was making a tweet. Phew!

And help me choose. Which title do you guys actually prefer, ‘P1000’ or ‘TTG’?
