To all my haters who thought I wouldn’t drop another one of these so soon, have this! Just kidding, my haters don’t read this newsletter.
So what’s new with me?
The Friday before my last newsletter, I went to Nike Art gallery for the first time, then to the beach with my ELCA screenwriting classmates. Did I forget to mention that? 😅
It was a really nice way to wrap it up with the people I was closest to for three months… but the billings though! Rode a horse back and forth the shoreline for a bit and ended up in a tiny argument with the horsekeep… horsekeeper? Horse guy sha.
The next day I was back in the studio recording episode 1 and other things. Had a friend Connie with me and it was a lot of fun. Hadn’t seen her in a whileeeee.
Then I returned to the beach on Monday (different beach) after my mum booked us inna hotel yunno! Ah, I must make this money. It was actually a nice little vacay even though there was work here and there. A two-day escape from the rest of Lagos.
In other news I’d been eyeing a VO course for a while now and it costs about 13k (one-month subscription o!), but I’d only do for a month and dip. However, when I finally tried paying with my GTBank card… I got declined. Ah, e pain me. But I decided to get a card for my Zenith account and try again.
Meanwhile, I had only four hours to come up with a trailer about Gaddafi, all so I could win 100k. For context, podcast day is 30th September and Naija Podhub has a contest where you send in your five minute audio trailer on the theme #StoryOfAnAfricanLegend. Winner takes all and ya boi had been procrastinating because of film school. I planned to work on it at the hotel but omo, e get as e be.
So the deadline was 11:59PM, 15th September and I started working around 8. Dare I say, I cooked. But by 11:55PM, I only had a confident 2+ minutes. I had to send it in like that. Sigh.
In other Podcast Day related news, there’s an event and I’m co-hosting a live podcast! During the event!! With a Jaguar!!! Not going to explain that last point.
It’s so crazy because it was on my list of things to do this year. I even tweeted about it.
I went to the bank and got the new card o. Sat in my house, happy that I could finally pay for the course. I had 14k in the card, put in my details and… Declined again. Ah. I could have cried a lot.
On Saturday, I saw a friend for the last time in a while. She’s in Canada now. It was really fun. Before I left home though, I finally cleaned under my bed… thoroughly. I found a N500 note which was oddly enough the only clean thing under the bed. ✨Riches ✨
I also saw a friend from film school who lived nearby, later on that evening.
Turns out the voice over course had been sending emails after each failed purchase. the first was because the card couldn’t make those kinds of purchases. The second was insufficient funds. Crazy, ik.
So I sent more money and tried again.
Declined.
Omo, I give up.
On Sunday, after Church, I linked up with a few friends I’m working on a film with and we went to location. Looked at some shots and when we were done, they wanted to go to Banana island, where a friend’s aunt was offering to host us. I was skeptical about going cus like… When would they eventually leave afterwards?
I was even more annoyed when I discovered there was a pool and NOBODY TOLD ME. Oh well. I went along, cus like, sometimes we say YES to experiences. It was my first time at banana island and honestly, I get it. It was also a lot of fun and I definitely made the right decision. Left there late sha, like after 8pm with one old friend and one new friend.
Now, this is like a lot for one entry but my week was THAT interesting.
Also, did some digging into the Lugards and What a Joke episode 2&3 are gonna be so fireeeeeee.
Jesus loves you.
Ciao!
P.S. I’m not trying that card payment anytime soon again. Also, they lost the uploads for the african legend thing so I can edit my submission and send it back in. yayyyyy.
Got a really amazing friend, Oma, to help me spruce it up. She’s absolutely brilliant.
